Welcome. Tonight we shall embark on a grand journey into the future. A future that is both dark and startling in all its revelations and possibilities.

To begin with, the year is now 2026. Many key events have occurred since the turn of the millenium that have shaped the current society. The foremost of these would be World War Three. Christened "The Omni War" by the people who lived it, it started in the year 2016 and finally ended in 2020. The aggressors in this conflict were the Russians. Despite the fact that less then twenty years before then they were on the verge of economic collapse, the Russians were able to turn things around using the greatest economic stimulator known to man: war. With a ruthlessness not seen since the last World War, when the soviets had been under the command of Stalin, the new Russian Empire expanded and pillaged, growing fat with conquered territories and people. Their military industries flourished in the years preceding The Omni War, producing horrors unlike any the world had known previous.

The forerunners in these new weapons of mass destruction were nicknamed "Omni-Pods". Millions of Americans and Allied troops died at the hands of these nefarious devices in the orgy of conquest and death that was The Omni War. These, and other horrors that emerged on both sides of the battle, changed forever the face of warfare.

The medical field has also leaped ahead in the years leading up to now. Its most notable advance was in the field of cloning. An event that relates more to a change society then in medical technology -- cloning has been deemed feasible as far back as 1999 -- was the brief legalization of human cloning in the United States in the year 2006. For years afterward, companies seeking wealth and power cloned humans for various moneymaking strategies. Most of these involved promising the populace smarter offspring or the resurrection of lost loved ones. These schemes ultimately failed, the companies involved never being able to fully deliver on their promises. Thus in the year 2011, human cloning was once again banned. However the clones that were created during this brief 5-year period of freedom were no longer wanted by the society that bred them. In laws passed shortly afterward, all clones were marked with red C's tattooed onto the area around their right or left eye. They were then banished to colonies in the western states. The laws restraining clones from becoming full members of society have since been revoked, but most clones have chosen to stay within the cities that they have built for themselves.

Tonight, however, an event shall occur that will not only forever change the face of society, but the very face of humanity itself.

The circumstances leading up to the events of tonight date back to before the time of man. But the catalyst for bringing it all together has only occurred in the last 18 years. In the year 2008, by sheer chance and an unprecedented degree of luck, a deep sea mapping expedition happened upon the ruins of what was then believed to be an ancient city. In a joint NATO expedition, the United States headed a massive exploratory expedition of the "ruins". Much to the shock of the researchers, their ruined city turned out to be some kind of massive alien space craft that had fallen from the sky unknown mellenia before. Horribly smashed by the impact, only small sections of the ship were accessible to the first expeditions those many years ago.

Deemed of the highest possible classification by all involved parties, the craft has since become the subject of the most massive joint undersea salvage operation in history. Over the next three years, the upper and more accessible levels of the craft were stripped of all important discoveries. Despite the years of study that have been preformed on the artifacts retrieved back then -- with a brief lull during The Omni War -- not a great deal of the vessel and its builders has been learned. The language of its creators continues to confound linguists and cryptologists the world over. What scientific and technical advances the alien technology has yielded have been kept carefully under wraps of the highest secrecy in the laboratories of the U.S. and its allies.

Now we move forward to 2 years in the past, the year 2024. In a project concerning only the highest levels of NATO governments, an expedition spearheaded by the United States finally gained access to the reactor core of the downed space ship. The core had been previously located as being in one of the most dangerously inaccessible parts of the vessel. From that reactor, the scientists managed to extract an undetermined tonnage of a previously unknown type of radioactive ore. Since that time, the ore has been the subject of intensive studies in the best military laboratories in North America.

It is only within the last few months, however, that the scientists have cracked what they believe is the secret of the ore. Playing on the fear and paranoia that that is still left over from The Omni War, the current president of the United States has gained enough support to use this new radioactive ore in a series of experimental nuclear bomb tests. It is the scientist's belief that the ore's radioactive fallout will not have a detrimental effect on organic life, and thus will be highly useful should another Omni War occur. Little do any of them know the true terror that they are about to unleash upon the world.

And thus the stage is set. It's a cool night tonight in most parts of North America for the beginning of May. People are going about their lives as they have always done. Children play in parts of the continent where it is still light enough to do so. Couples and young lovers walk hand in hand through parks and the streets. Winos, vagabonds, and the homeless occupy their street corners begging for whatever handouts society bestows upon them, before being forced to seek shelter for the night. And only a handful of people in the whole world knows what's coming within a few hours, when the scientists set off their new "wonder bomb".

This year, and this very day, shall be looked upon and remembered by all the world, for all time to come, as the day that truly changed the face of humanity. And on that final note, we shall commence with the presentation and proceed with our first subject...
